Picking a theme for a movie room can present a series of problems. A theme will determine the final appearance of a room. A theme will either leave guests in awe or have them saying “eww”. If you want the former results, you want to pick a theme that no other room has. Too often, homeowners look at a magazine for luxury theater rooms and try to replicate the exact image for their movie room. The results leave homeowners trying to squeeze in items that don’t fit or replicate lackluster designs that don’t add the “ahh” factor to a movie room.

Choose A Theme First

Choose a theme that you know you can get creative with. Some themes leave little room for creativity; others open up the door for you to express your creative freedom. For instance, a theme of a specific epoch in time is good to build upon. Take the era of the Wild West. Think about the number of possibilities for designing a room using this theme. You can load the room with cowboy portraits, i.e., John Wayne or Clint Eastwood images. You can buy furniture depicting the Wild West, such as cowboy lamps. You can even paint the room with a background of western saloons and cowboys. If you really want to sell the theme, you can even buy high end home theater chairs that mimic the theme. The possibilities are endless. Just remember, choose carefully to ensure your theme has enough ideas and possibilities to create a one-of-a-kind experience for guests.

Hire Consultants if Necessary

Sometimes you can get away with skipping the help of professionals and create your own home theater room without them. Other times, you need a consultant to raise the floor to give everyone a clear view or wire your television set properly.

If you’re going to paint a room with a mural or a picture of your favorite action hero, you’re going to need professional help. These layout plans are critical in ensuring that you create a professional looking room, and cutting corners could leave guests saying “eww” instead of “ahhh”. Even if it’s just for help buying Elite home theatre seating or furniture for a room, you may want to consider speaking to a professional for layout ideas.

Building a room takes planning, and picking a theme does as well. Proper planning will get you on the right track to making a better looking room with a theme that will leave guests wanting to return.

Elite Home Theater Chairs makes one of a kind custom home theater furniture. Their chairs are of great quality and come with a ten year warranty. You can put together your own home theater seating custom to your needs on the website.

Is there someone special in your life celebrating a birthday? It can be a difficult decision getting someone you love a gift. You want them to have something that is meaningful, yet useful. It may seem like a strange idea, but giving someone a beautiful mirror to use in his or her home can be quite thoughtful. Mirrors today come in millions of different shapes, styles, and colors. They can be used for much more than just getting dressed in the morning. Mirrors can be decorative items that make a difference in someone’s space. From a gorgeous compact mirror for a purse, or a large mirror that creates an impact in a home, your options in gift giving will be endless.

Birthdays are special occasions, and you want to make one special for that wonderful person in your life. Women love mirrors as gifts. You can find something really decorative and beautiful that they can use as something functional and to decorate with. It’s easy to find beautiful ornate compact mirrors that she can carry around in her purse. Another wonderful idea is mirror trays. Mirror trays can be used on countertops in bathrooms and bedrooms to store and display various items. If she has a vanity table, it would be perfect.

When There Is A Celebration

Maybe someone who has just moved into a new house is celebrating a birthday. This can be a great opportunity for you to give them a mirror as a birthday and housewarming gift. Get them something really special that can make an impact when they decorate their house. If they have the wall space, large oval mirrors or large round mirrors are great choices. They can act as centerpieces and bring in beautiful light to any area. If they have a specific style in their home, look for something that matches the décor they already have.

When it comes time to find this birthday gift, go to some more unusual places. Try antique shops, craft fairs, and online designers. You might be able to find something that is truly special. A mirror doesn’t just have to be something simple. There are millions of decorative options in style, color, and shape if you just take a little bit of time to do some research. You should also consider doing something creative, like buying a plain mirror and adding your own special touches to the frame like paint or fake flowers. A gift that is hand crafted is always more special. Your friends and family will have beautiful, memorable gifts that they will treasure forever.

Choose OvalAndRoundMirrors.com for all of your decorative oval mirrors and decorative round wall mirrors needs. You can pick from a big selection of different sizes, profiles and styles of wall mirrors. You’ll like their mirrors.

If you take a look at your garden, and think that there’s room for improvement, you’ll wonder how to go about it.

Do you pay a professional gardener to make it look better?
Do you leave it as it is, or do you fix it yourself?

The latter option might seem like a lot of work, but that’s not the case. If you have a clear idea of what your garden should look like, then surely there’s no-one better to make it happen than you.

Designing a garden for the first time might seem daunting to some, but there are always ways in which you can make the whole process much simpler.

Initial Process

The first thing to do is to make sure that you know what you want your garden to look like when the work’s finished.

Then, you have to think about what plants you want to have in the garden. Do you want mostly tall plants, short ones or a mixture of both?

You’ll want your garden to have a balanced look so it is important to get the mixture of plants right.

Spacing and Shaping

Something that you will want to bear in mind is where to place your plants.

To create a walled effect, you might want to place the larger plants towards the edges of your garden and put the smaller plants in front.

However, you won’t want to restrict the smaller plants’ access to natural sunlight, so the best thing to do would be to remember that.

Pick Your Own Colours

Picking and following a colour scheme with your plants could also be very useful.

While colour clashes can actually work in a garden, a bit of synchronicity could pay off as well.

Not following a colour scheme might ruin all your hard work and effort, so picking flowers with light, pastel shades or vivid reds, oranges, pinks and yellows could be one answer for your garden.

Adding Features

Allowing room for items such as water features, garden furniture and paths is also important when designing your first garden.

Having these features, especially furniture, will make it easier for you and everyone else to spend time in your wonderful garden once all the work is done.

As for water features, trellises and other flourishes, you won’t want to go too over the top, so use them sparingly, as the flowers are what make or break a garden.

Richard Goldthorpe is a garden designer who works for www.bridgman.co.uk. He has plenty of knowledge of garden furniture, especially rattan garden furniture, and how it works in relation to the rest of a garden.

Since beauty depends on an individual’s taste, there are as many options for good interior decorating as there are people. Nevertheless, all of these options have common elements that apply to every room’s decoration.

Common Elements

The four common elements of beauty are lighting, space, objects and color.
Without any one of these elements, beauty cannot exist. Every person works with these integral parts until a room becomes a creation of art.

Lighting

The natural lighting of any room will vary throughout the day. Windows on the east side of the room will allow maximum light during the morning hours, while windows on the west side will have maximum light in the late afternoon. Windows on the north and south side will generally allow maximum light at mid-day with seasonal variations.

Window size also affects the natural lighting. Smaller windows can be a constraint and a challenge to the decorator. If the installed windows cannot be replaced or additional windows installed, the decorator may consider direct or indirect artificial lighting.

The decorator should consider the time of day that the room is used and design the room for the best possible lighting.

Space

Room space is always limited by a floor, three or more walls, and a ceiling. It is the space that will be filled with bright light, or a soft glow of artificial light that captures the exact mood desired by the decorator.

There are many fascinating combinations of flooring and wall materials. Choices of floor coverings range from hardwood to cork to carpet. Walls may be panel, sheetrock, or wall paper. Any of these combinations will make a suitable frame for the decorator’s creation.

At this point, the decorator must consider space from another perspective. The number and size of the objects that occupy the space must allow comfortable pedestrian movement. Any person moving through the area should not brush against any piece of furniture, nor should he or she feel too far from a piece of furniture at any given time.

 Objects

The various objects placed in any given space will determine the use of the space. Since the objects vary in size and shape, the decorator must use a critical eye to determine that the objects are arranged for optimum efficiency. Although there may be some constraints, furniture that is frequently used should be placed close to the each room’s entrance. Likewise, furniture and items that are used in concert should be arranged for ease of use.

 Essentials First

The decorator should select only essential furniture for each room before making any further plans. The actual size and color at this point is irrelevant. Many different arrangements may be tried in searching for optimizing efficiency and maximizing space.
Of course, there are times that room size or the number of entrances will make the ideal arrangement impossible. In these circumstances, the decorator must decide the best option.

After selecting the essential furniture and planning its arrangement, the decorator may begin planning decorative items for the room. The items chosen will depend on the room’s use and the amount of excess space. Only excess space should be filling because comfortable pedestrian movement should be available to every piece of furniture.

Color

Color is the element that gives the us the best opportunity to use artistic talents. Once the lighting, space and objects have been determined, the decorator can experiment to determine the best colors to use for any given room.

Some rooms are best decorated using conservative colors while other rooms may be better with a more daring flare. Living rooms may use carpets, hardwoods or softwoods for flooring. Walls may be paneling or sheetrock. Floors, walls and ceilings are generally matched or blended with the colors. Furniture color is matched or blended with the floors and walls.

Bedrooms and bathrooms may use paneling or pastel-colored walls. However, the opportunity to use imagination is selecting wallpaper. With various colors and designs available, the decorator has many options that are not found in paneling or paint. Wallpaper with flowers or other designs offer and exciting change for the adults’ bedrooms. Since children love animals, their bedrooms will make their eyes sparkle as they see their favorite pets playing on the walls.

One of the biggest mistakes new home owners make is forgetting to budget for maintenance and repairs. If the roof starts to leak or the furnace breaks down, you can’t call your landlord to fix the problem anymore! But the good news is that you can save money on home costs if you follow these Four easy steps:

Step 1: Make a monthly and annual maintence checklist.

For many home owners, some of the biggest expenses come from problems that could have been avoided with proper foresight. Your home needs to be maintained or items will break down more quickly. For example, if you don’t take care of a leaky roof, the leak could create a serious mold problem or if you don’t replace a broken gutten, the runoff after a hard rain could damage your home’s foundation. A home that’s not maintained could even be dangerous. So make a monthly and annual checklist of things to maintain. Spend a little money now and you’ll save a ton of money later.

Step 2: Make sure you have a great insurance policy.

Your mortgage agreement probably requires you to carry a homeowners insurance policy, but these policies run the gambit when it comes to coverage. Making sure you have a great insurance policy that covers all your bases rather than just the minimum policy. If you don’t have a great policy and your home takes damage in a natural disaster, you could find yourself paying out of pocket to repair your home.

Step 3: Be smart about shopping for home improvement supplies.

You’re going to have to pay for supplies for you home – but that doesn’t mean you have to spend tons of money for items like paint and tile. First, buy in bulk when you can. You’ll spend less when you order more, and using the same colors or supplies throughout your house (for example, using the same crown molding in several rooms) can create a more cohesive look to your house. Also consider buying “remnants” for smaller rooms. Home improvement stores need to get rid of the end of their supplies to make room for new stock, and they’ll often do so at a lower price. You can also find cheaper prices for supplies at yard sales, flea markets, and online sites like Craigslist.

Step 4: Hire experienced, licensed contractors.

When you need to have work done on your house, don’t hire that guy down the street who owns a hammer; hire licensed professionals. In some states, it’s actually illegal to have work done by people who aren’t licensed, but even if this isn’t an issue in your area, working with a licensed professional ensures that the work is done right the first time. Otherwise, you could find yourself shelling out even more money to fix shoddy work. Always check online reviews and Better Business Bureau information before hiring a contractor.

Building your own stone patio is not as hard as you may think. The whole process can be completed in just a few steps. The key to creating a patio that will stand the test of time is not rushing the process and assuring that you complete each step without taking shortcuts. If you build a quality patio, there is a good chance it could outlive you. Of course, you can always find a landscaping company to do the work for you. Either way, you can use the following steps to make sure you get the patio you want!

So lets examine the steps involved in building our stone patio.

1. Excavation – Excavate the area where you wish your final patio to be situated. You will need to determine the final height of your patio. Excavate deep enough to allow for 6″-8″(minimum) of ‘A’ gravel, .5″ – 1″ of stone dust, plus the height of the paving stone you are using (usually between 2″- 3″). The final excavation depth should end up somewhere between 10″ and 12″. It is important to be careful while excavating, cutting through telephone wires or gas lines can cause a big headache. Don’t hesitate to get locates before you start digging.

2. Making the Base – Begin filling the excavated area with ‘A’ gravel. You want to add about 2″ – 3″ of ‘A’ gravel evenly throughout the area. We call this a ‘lift’. Each lift is followed up by compacting the gravel to make a solid base. Once you have completed 3 or 4 lifts you will need to check your height to make sure you have enough room between the top of the gravel and the final determined height of your patio. Your final lift of gravel should be pretty level yet sloped slightly away from your house to prevent water problems. Try to be very accurate with the height of your final gravel lift, however we will still be adding stone dust so perfection is not yet required. example, If you are using a paving stone 3″ thick, you need to leave the gravel 3.5″ – 4″ below your final height, allowing room for stone dust, and the paving stone to fill the void.

Adding stone dust is the most crucial part to building your own patio. Stone dust will create a smooth, flat bed for the paving stone to sit on. Add 1 lift of stone dust up to the height of your final patio height minus the height of the stone. This should be about .5″ – 1″ of stone dust. Compact the stone dust lift and add just a little bit more non compacted stone dust. You will be able check the height with a paving stone and add more stone dust if needed.

The size of your patio will determine how you will level and smooth the stone dust. A big patio will require some long bars that you can use to screed the stone dust with. This is a process in itself that will require more reading. The other option is to use a large level, usually 4 feet long. When working with the final layer of stone dust it is important to take the time to make it as accurate as possible. Any imperfections will show in the final product.

3. Laying the Paving Stones – The hard part is done, now you just need to lay the stones on your base. Things to think about before starting this step are: Any patterns you may be using, where to start (usually against your house). Try to avoid walking on the base in any areas you will be laying stone on later.

When laying the pavers you should set up some string lines to make sure your lines are straight and square. Use a rubber mallet to adjust sections of stone or individual stone heights.

Once your patio is completely laid, you can bring topsoil up to the edges of the stone sloping out to your existing lawn or lay sod up to the patio to create a polished final product.

When renting an apartment, there is a lot of time spent decorating and designing the inside of your home to create a comfortable zone where you can feel relaxed and recharged. If your apartment has a balcony or a small yard, you may find yourself at a loss for how to decorate and create a comfortable space to sit and enjoy. Porches and small yards can easily be spruced up for very little money, but it can be hard to know where to start. With these simple ideas, you may find your porch or small yard is your outdoor haven in no time.

Breathe Life Into Your Space

Plant life is one of the premiere ways to set the mood for your rental balcony or patio. Using pots and containers, you can create a gorgeous garden that suits your own personal style, and that you can take with you when it’s time to move. Flowers, trees or shrubs can also offer a bit more privacy than you might otherwise have, and give you a feeling that your space is truly your own.

Seating

It’s hard to feel at home on a patio that you can’t sit on, so keep your eye peeled for outdoor furniture that you love. Wicker or wood are typical standbys, but depending on the size of your space, you may be able to get a great free standing bench or swing to enjoy as well. Yard sales and Craigslist are great for finding inexpensive outdoor seating if you’re on a budget.

Barbeques

While everyone loves a good barbeque in the summer, renters have to be especially careful to note the rules and regulations of their rental home before buying and using a barbeque. You should also be absolutely clear on your personal rental insurance policy and the stance on barbeques in apartment building suites before you go ahead with this one.

Accents

One of the best ways to find accents for outdoors is to do so at second hand shops and thrift stores. Lanterns and candles are wonderful ways to set a romantic mood for yourself in the evening, and citronella candles are useful for avoiding unwanted insect visitors. A patio umbrella and table set can keep your space shaded and comfortable in the summer, while outdoor heaters are great assets to take advantage of in the winter months. You can find beautiful artisan pots and vases to add flare to your outdoor space, and create an environment that your friends and family will love.

Setting money aside for future home improvements is always a good idea. Many people only think of improving the inside of their home. However, there are many outdoor home improvement projects that can be done that will add to a home’s overall value. Upon completion, these things can add to the functioning of the home also. There are many improvements that can accomplish this however we are only going to discuss a few. While some of these ideas are obvious improvements, there may be others that you may not have thought of.

Painting May Be Simplest

Some of the things that you might first think of when enhancing the outside of your home, might be a new coat of paint, installing new siding, or making outside repairs. Walking around the home and really taking in what things need to be done will help you to decide where to begin. Big improvements can be made even when starting on the smaller projects and working your way up to the bigger ones as time and money allow. By taking the time to make small repairs now can also save you from having to make a big and expensive repair later.

Improve Your Garden

One sure way to increase the outside beauty of your home is with landscaping. You will be surprised at the cosmetic difference that can be made by just planting a bush or a tree. Choosing a flowering bush or tree will only enhance the beauty of your home. Many homeowners enjoy planting flowers. If you choose to plant flowers in your yard, it is a good idea to plant perennials which will grow back year after year as opposed to annuals that must be planted every spring. This will not only add beauty to your home but will also increase the value as well as save you time and money for many years to come.

Guttering Is Important

Installing rain gutters is also a good idea because it will help keep the rain away from the home’s foundation as well as keep the rain from splashing against the siding. The windows and doors of the home are important areas to have the gutter system installed over. Having a gutter over the windows will help to prevent excessive amounts of rain from getting into the house. Gutters that are installed over the doorways will reduce the amount of water that will drop on your head as your exit and enter your home.

Doors And Windows For Insulation

Once you have worked on the landscaping improvements, you may want to consider replacing the windows and doors of your home. This will help to ensure that your home’s beauty increases as well as save you money. Single pane windows are known to allow the cold air of winter to seep into the home while allowing the warm inside air to seep out. This causes your energy bill to rise. Replacing those leaky windows will allow you to keep the air where you desire it to be and will allow you to save money on your energy bill. Be careful that you do not overlook the other possible benefits to window replacement. One of these benefits could be a tax break for installing energy efficient windows. However, it would be best if you contact a local contractor for additional information.

The patio is a great place to sit back and relax after a hard day’s work or to entertain family and friends for special occasions. It’s also a place to enjoy Mother Nature while still being near the comforts of home instead of the uncertainty of the great outdoors. The area just needs a patio umbrella to spruce up the surroundings, add the desired ambience and provide additional protection from the elements including sun, rain and snow.

Each patio is different from the other patios in the neighborhood in terms of space, ambience and uses. Fortunately, the market offers a wide range of patio umbrellas to choose from the small to the large, from to temporary to the semi-permanent, and even from the round to the rectangle. This article discusses these choices so that homeowners will have a better idea of these products even before logging on to an online site or visiting a home improvement store.

Choices in Materials

One of the beauties of a patio umbrella is its wide range of possible materials from which it can be manufactured. Homeowners can browse through the selections to determine which style, design and material of patio umbrellas are suitable for their patios before settling on a specific model.

The most rustic and romantic of patio umbrellas are usually made from wood, said material of which is used on the poles and ribs. Wood provides for a classic and classy feel that other materials like cold metal often cannot offer the homeowner. However, wood can be less than durable than metal in terms of being able to withstand the vagaries of nature although many wooden patio umbrellas now have metal at the core of the wooden pole to boost durability.

An aluminum patio umbrella is a good choice, too. Usually, the aluminum is used on the poles and ribs with the cover being made from canvas, which makes for durable, lightweight and beautiful patio umbrellas. Consumers who live in windy areas benefit the most from aluminum models with the added advantage of being able to choose from many kinds of finishes to the metal.

Aluminum patio umbrellas also come with fiberglass ribs. The result is an umbrella that can withstand strong winds since fiberglass is more flexible and yet more durable than wood and aluminum combined.

Choices in Styles

Usually, a patio umbrella looks like the portable umbrella with the pole in the middle. But there are inherent problems with the design as the pole can get in the way of people facing each other. Manufacturers offer the offset patio umbrellas, also known as cantilever umbrellas, which provides for extra flexibility, shade and area. Just make sure that the base is heavier to prevent the offset umbrella from toppling over.

Yet another choice in patio umbrellas is the wall-mounted type. Obviously, it can be mounted directly to the wall, thus, providing for an outdoor café atmosphere right in the backyard. Other benefits include greater space for the tables underneath and lesser hassles in unfurling these umbrellas.

Patio umbrellas come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Homeowners and even business owners can choose from round, rectangular and polygonal umbrellas with sizes from single to double. The final choice in the patio umbrella will depend on personal preferences in style, the available budget and the allocated space.
