My wife and I removed what I call “knick-knacks” from the living/family room replacing them with a few well placed greeneries and it’s made the space a lot more fresh and relaxing. Less is better.

When I decorated my living room I painted the walls white and then chose contrasting colours of furniture. Some nice light wooden cabinets and a glass table really finished it off. My neighbours trees outside were also blocking a lot of the light so I asked him to trim them.

With the white walls and extra light it’s really a pleasure to sit and read in my living room!

We just got through painting a house almost the exact same color as that one in the picture. I had to do a double take because the porch looked very similar. Great post by the way. Hope to add some good comments from time to time.

As a Realtor, I see that many people refer to a living room as a wasted space/room. If a house has a family room, people don’t know what to do with a living room. Perhaps I can share your article with them for some ideas.

Great advice. I think most of us just throw together the collection of what we have accumulated without much consideration to what actually looks good together. Having worked with a lot of realtors in the past it is amazing what a little attention to detail can do to help sell a home.
